To get the most out of your visit to the Thai House Restaurant, it helps to know a little about how Thais prepare, select and eat their food.
Thai food is an essential aspect of Thai culture and everyday life, something which is taken very seriously. As a result, it has developed into a World Class cuisine.
Some people believe Thai food to be spicy. In some cases it is, but there are many dishes which are not spicy at all.
Eating Thai Food is a social occasion, the meal being shared with family and/or friends.
Ordering the right dishes is easy to do with the guidelines provided. Additionally all our staff are trained to assist you in selecting dishes.
Dining the “Thai way” is different from eating in many Western countries, where you select and eat an appetizer and individual main course dish. In practice, this has many shortcomings in that you only get to try one dish, you tend to stick to the same old favorites, just to be safe. If you do try something different and don't like it, you are left with a few different alternatives.
The Thai approach is to eat with a number of people, order a number of dishes and share them. This is much more practical in that: You get to try a number of dishes. If you don't like a dish, there are others to choose from. You can afford to be more adventurous. The result is a more balance and satisfying meal and an enjoyable social occasion. Think about this: Have you ever thought that some else's meal looks nicer. Have you ever been tempted to try your partner's or friends' meal? Have you ever ordered a meal and not enjoyed it? Eating the Thai way avoids this!
Today, meals throughout Thailand are eaten using a spoon and fork, although chopsticks are occasionally used. A knife is unnecessary as all of the food is either served in bite-sized pieces or can easily be broken up.
Salt and pepper are not traditionally used at the table. Thais use “fish sauce”, chili powder and a variety of sauces instead. We aim to serve your meal correctly seasoned, but if you wish to adjust please ask.
